Never having had green juice before, I was interested to see what effects it would have on my body and my daily routine. I was impressed to learn from the nutritional information that the YOGI juice had the kind of nutrients I was interested in incorporating into my diet a bit more, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and even some iron. As the winter months approach, I want to make sure I am doing what I can to keep my immune system high and help my skin in this dryer season.
At first, I was unsure how I’d feel about the taste, considering that celery, spinach and kale are main ingredients, but I was pleasantly surprised as the days went on. After a few juices, the most prominent flavour I experienced were the lemon and ginger rather than the celery and it gave the juice a nice tanginess. However, what I really wanted to know from this 2-week green juice challenge was what it did for my body and my overall wellness the longer I stuck to it.
Here is what I experienced:
Hydration 💧
Everyone knows the importance of hydration for their health, but I did not realize how much more I could have been incorporating into my daily routine until I made it a point to drink a YOGI green juice after my morning coffee. It provided that much-needed replenishment after the caffeine that I did not realize I needed. It was also incredibly tasty to drink it fresh out of the fridge. It offered that boost of energy, simply because of its cold temperature.
Digestion 👍
One of the benefits of the YOGI green juice that I personally experienced was its digestive properties. I read that ginger and lemon are powerhouse ingredients that are great for reducing bloating and keeping you regular. Along with the hydration properties, the longer I drank the juices the more settled my stomach felt, especially after a meal. While I often drank a juice in the late mornings, I also enjoyed adding it to a bigger meal in order to help with digestion.
Getting Used to the Flavour 🥒
As mentioned above, an initial hesitation I had with the green juice was the flavour. I was not sure what to expect, especially since celery is not a vegetable I enjoy eating on its own. However, with time, the main flavour was the lemon, followed by the pleasant kick of ginger as an aftertaste. Seeing the deep green colour of the juice might make you initially experience it based on what you think it should taste like, but just that hint of sourness makes a world of difference to the flavour.
Creating and Maintaining A Routine 💫
The main benefit of a 2-week challenge is that you are encouraged to create and maintain a routine for longer than you might normally be used to. I found that having my late morning green juice became a routine that I looked forward to, especially because it provided me with a boost of energy before my workout. I always knew that I would be reaching for one at around 11 and it became a habit that was not only enjoyable in the moment, but also offered benefits later in the day.
A New Self-Care Ritual ✨
My favourite aspect of the 2-week green juice challenge was that it slowly became a kind of self-care ritual that I didn’t know I needed in my daily life. Aside from the nutritional benefits it provided, it was also nice knowing that I was doing something good for my body, much like with working out, maintaining a balanced diet, and even practicing skincare. Knowing that in the short amount of time it takes to drink one of the YOGI green juices I was doing something that would benefit me in the long run felt like a kindness to myself that is often overlooked in our busy lives. It gave me a new perspective on what it means to take care of myself.
While green juice might not be for everyone, taking a short challenge such as this one might just be exactly what you need to switch up your routine and develop a new beneficial habit. Even though it might not be necessary to drink a green juice every day for the rest of my life, I now know that incorporating one here and there is a great way to help me feel better overall in such a simple, yet impactful way.
