‘’Gen, that is just pure sexism.”
… Is what one of my friends said to me, in shock, when I told her how, in an important meeting, a potential investor had asked my male partner (in front of me): “Is Gen any good?”
It’s also worth noting he never once looked at me when I was trying to speak and never bothered asking me if “my male partner was any good” either.
When my friend called it sexism, it felt heavy and unreal. Unfortunately, what was once heavy and unreal would soon become familiar. That anecdote is just one of many.
The truth is, even in Canada, gender inequality remains a troubling issue.
Did you know that :
- On average, women who work full time earn 74 cents for every dollar earned by men?
- Women only hold 8% of the highest-paid positions in Canada’s top 100 listed companies?
- Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16?
Sadly, I’m not alone in my experiences and women around the globe suffer from worst things on a daily basis.
In hopes of making a difference by contributing in the best way we know how, we’re launching the #AllForMelons campaign.
For every bottle of MELON & HONEY sold and every t-shirt sold, Dose will give part of the proceeds to the Canadian Women’s Foundation. It’s a foundation that empowers women and helps them break free of violence and poverty, and find their way toward confidence and leadership.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate women, to celebrate ourselves!
I want to celebrate our strength so we can acknowledge that achieving our goals is possible. I also want to celebrate our weaknesses so we can accept that no one is perfect… yes, even that person you put on a pedestal, they have weaknesses too. ?
I want us to reach out when we need strength and I want us to share our strength when we feel empowered.
Here’s why I am asking you today to join us and help us make a difference because, at the end of the day, we are all in this together and it is a beautiful thing.
