I’ve been creating recipes for DOSE Juice for over a year now with their delicious juices, shots and smoothies. My recipes are always sweet treats like ice pops or comforting drinks. This time I wanted to do something different. I created a sweet and salty recipe with the delicious ZEST juice from DOSE.

Why choose ZEST juice over any other generic orange juice? Because this juice is not just an ordinary one! In addition to orange, it contains grapefruit, lemon and cardamom. These flavours really add a special touch that makes this recipe taste amazing. In addition, all DOSE juices are certified organic by Ecocert Canada. They are always cold-pressed to make sure that all the nutrients are kept intact.

In short, they make recipes, winning recipes!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp of canola oil
  • 1 block of 454 g firm tofu, cubed
  • 1/2 cup DOSE – ZEST juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 tbsp of maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp of soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp of cornstarch

Method

1. In a bowl, combine the juice, maple syrup, soy sauce, cornstarch and garlic. Keep aside.

2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the tofu for 10 minutes. Pour the sauce, bring to a boil and reduce the heat to low. Simmer 2 minutes before serving.

The zesty caramelized tofu is delicious when served with a side of basmati rice and a side of baked vegetables (like red peppers, zucchini, asparagus, etc.)

Enjoy your meal! 🙂

As we kick off the back-to-school period, you might find yourself feeling a bit overwhelmed with a busy schedule. Trying to balance work, school, family and friends can be incredibly stressful when you can’t even find the time for healthy eating and regular exercise. This time of year, more than ever, it’s important to prioritize your health and support your immune system with all the right foods to keep you going throughout the day.

If you’re finding it hard to incorporate all the necessary vitamins and minerals into your diet to maintain your overall health, below are a few easy, on-the-go snacks for your busy lifestyle.

1.  Mixed Nuts & Seeds

Nuts and seeds are a simple and easy way to get in that much-needed protein on a busy day. With just a handful eaten on-the-go, you can stay satiated for longer and don’t have to worry about dealing with a grumbling stomach between meals.

2.  Apples and Peanut Butter

This simple snack is as filling as it is delicious. If you’re struggling to get in your fibre and Vitamin C throughout the day, apples are a great option. Pair that with the filling protein of peanut butter and you’ve got yourself a snack to share with friends or enjoy on your way to work.

3.  Green Juice

Adding green juice to your daily diet is an easy way to incorporate more Vitamin C as well as other nutrients (depending on the ingredients). How easy? Well, in just a 300ml bottle of DOSE’s YOGI green juice, you’ll get a high concentrate of Vitamin A and Vitamin C, found in vegetables such as spinach, kale, celery, and lemon. Grab one on a busy day to help keep you energized as you go!

4.  Protein bar

Whether you just finished a workout or need something to tide you over between meals, keeping a protein bar in your bag for more hectic days is a great way to keep your body going throughout the day without feeling hungry. Eating regularly is important, so consider keeping one of these easy snacks in close reach during a busy day.

5.  Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is a great source of a variety of nutrients, such as protein, B12 and calcium. If you’re running late or just don’t have enough time in your schedule to prepare a big meal, pack some Greek yogurt with honey and assorted nuts to keep you full and healthy as you take on the day.

6.  Popcorn

Popcorn is a fibre-filled bite-sized snack that will help keep you full. In just 100 grams of popcorn, there are 13 grams of dietary fibre—an easy way to get your nutritional fill without having to prepare a full meal. For those who struggle to stay on track with their busy schedules, popcorn is great for a fast-paced lifestyle.

7.  Hummus & Veggies

If you’re struggling to get in more vegetables throughout the day, then consider packing some carrots, celery and cauliflower with hummus as a delicious and nutritious on-the-go snack. Hummus is a great source of the healthy fats our bodies need to function, so don’t underestimate the tasty spread and its benefits for your busy lifestyle.

8.  Protein Smoothie

For those who really don’t have a moment to spare between the gym and work, grabbing a protein smoothie after a workout is a great way to stay healthy and energized. DOSE’s plant-based protein smoothies are a simple, yet effective way to stay satiated during a busy day.

9.  Hard-Boiled Egg

What’s easier to add to a busy lifestyle than a pre-packed snack that’s high in protein, B12 and a variety of other vitamins? While not always the best smelling snack to take with you on your commute, a hard-boiled egg is an easy alternative when you’re running short on time between appointments and need to get in some nutrients to keep you energized throughout the day.

10.  Fibre-Rich Dry Cereal

For those who don’t mind some crunch, taking a handful of cereal in a reusable plastic bag or container is a simple way to get in your dietary fibre. There are also some fortified cereals that are jam-packed with vitamins, such as Vitamin D and iron. If you feel like you might be lacking in these vital nutrients, but don’t have much time on your hands, cereal is a quick snack for anyone who is constantly on-the-go.

If you’re having a hard time fitting nutrition into your busy schedule, try out some of our delicious and healthy juice packs today!

I discovered ginger a few years ago and have been a fan of it ever since. Its spicy taste but sweet at the same time is such a masterpiece in many recipes! Ginger is one of the main ingredients in DOSE Juice’s famous Gut Shot along with lemon, turmeric and black pepper.

I thought about creating a popsicles recipe with this drink because, not only is it refreshing for summer, but the flavours also give a little kick to those low-energy days!

What I love about DOSE Juice Gut Shot is the fact that you don’t have to waste time pressing the ingredients yourself. It’s time-consuming and it can be messy! Also, DOSE juices are all organic, so no worries there. And since all juices are cold-pressed, you can be sure that all the nutrients are well preserved.

And if you don’t necessarily like to take it in one shot, but you’ve always wanted to try it, this recipe is a great alternative to consume it!

Orange Boost Popsicles (8 popsicles)

Method

1. In a bowl, mix the boost, water, juice and maple syrup. Divide among 8 popsicle molds. Add the slices of orange to each mold.

2. Place in the freezer for at least 6 hours before unmolding.

These colourful popsicles are perfect to eat next to the pool or as a light and refreshing dessert after a good meal! ☀

Mental health is a hot-button topic these days and deserves as much attention as it’s been getting. It can’t go understated how important your mental health is to the way you function in your day-to-day life. Without a clear head and regulated emotions, many people struggle to function in certain work environments, find and maintain meaningful relationships, and feel capable of handling whatever life might throw their way.

With techniques and treatments such as psychotherapy and medication, we have made huge strides in managing mental health and allowing others to share their experiences. However, there is also a lot to be said about how your daily diet affects the way your brain functions, whether you notice it or not. If you’ve been feeling off lately and aren’t quite sure why below are a few ways how your diet might be having an impact on your mental health and how to support it with the foods you add to your grocery list.

mental health

Why You Might Be Feeling Off When Not Eating Right

The food you eat is ultimately the fuel your brain runs on. It isn’t surprising that a malnourished body would be affecting your mental health. Seeing as the brain is always functioning, even when you’re asleep. Then it’s important to understand the effects of the food you feed it. It has an impact on the way it processes information and allows you to function throughout the day.

There are a variety of nutrients that have an enormous impact on the way your neurons communicate with one another, producing the mood-altering effects you experience on good and bad days. Serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for helping you sleep and mediate moods, is primarily produced in the gut. Therefore, the food you eat determines how much serotonin your body can produce. Serotonin helps protect the gut from bad bacteria and inflammation in order for you to absorb enough nutrients through your intestinal tract. Without enough serotonin production, you might begin to feel anxious, depressed, irritable, aggressive, have trouble sleeping, etc.

It’s no surprise that a diet comprised of foods in high saturated fats and processed sugars without any of the essential nutrients won’t leave you feeling great.

Disclaimer: At all times, if you feel low, anxious or in need of help, we strongly suggest you speak with a health professional. Food can do great things but is never a treatment for anything.

The Best Foods to Help Improve Your Mood and Overall Well-Being

When it comes to mental health, there are a variety of reasons why you might be struggling. The food you eat isn’t the be-all and end-all, but it does play an important factor. Along with the appropriate treatments, such as cognitive behavioural therapy and medication, a diet packed with all the right nutrients and minerals can positively affect your mood and overall wellbeing. The overall consensus seems to be opting for a Mediterranean diet to improve mood. Here are a few of the best foods that you can choose to incorporate into your meals:

There are a variety of factors that play a role in maintaining mental health. Your daily diet is an important one. It’s necessary to make sure you’re getting in the right vitamins and minerals. They support healthy immune function and well-being so that you can take on whatever the day throws at you. If you’re looking for an easy way to add some nutrients to your meals, try one of our DOSE juice challenges today!

Juicing has been a long-standing dietary practice with a whole host of benefits. It is incredibly convenient for those who have busy lifestyles. It also helps you get in some essential vitamins and nutrients that you might be missing in your regular meals. When it comes to juicing, there aren’t any strict rules you need to follow as a beginner, but there are a few tips that can help you get the most out of your juices. These include the types of fruits and vegetables you use, as well as the time of day you decide to drink them.

If you’re wondering whether your juicing schedule is right for your dietary needs, below are a few times of day that are the best for enjoying a cold-pressed juice.

cold-pressed juice in the morning

Drink a Cold-Pressed Juice First Thing in the Morning

The next time you wake up famished for breakfast, consider opting for a fruit-based juice first before preparing your meal. This will give you a boost without you having to rely on caffeine. Fruits offer complex carbohydrates that can help you metabolize energy throughout the day. They also provide the nutrients from the specific fruits you use. An empty stomach will have less to digest therefore making it the optimal time to get in all the benefits from your juice. It’s also much more convenient to grab a juice on your way out the door on a busy day!

stretching

Drink a Cold-Pressed Juice Before or After a Workout

As mentioned above, fruit juices are a great source of complex carbohydrates. They provide that much-needed boost of energy before a workout. To perform cardio or weightlifting, your body will need energy, and that’s where a pre-workout juice comes into play. It will give you that boost for your workout without leaving you hungry during the process.

However, a post-workout smoothie is just as important, especially a protein-based one. Your glucose levels need to be brought back up and your hunger needs to be curbed until you can sit down for a full meal. After strenuous activity, your body needs to nourish its muscles and replenish any nutrients lost during your workout. Proteins and fruits are great at doing both. Drinking a cold-pressed smoothie after your workout is an easy way to stay on track with your nutrition goals!

Drink a Cold-Pressed Juice with a Light Meal

It’s no surprise that the heavier the meal, the harder your body must work to digest it. This is especially true for meals that include meat or dairy. Compared to fruits, they are digested much slower, therefore your juice could lead to some unwanted indigestion if paired with a heavy meal. To get the most out of your juice and absorb all the nutrients it has to offer, then consider drinking green juice or fruit juice with a plant-based meal. This will make it easier for all the nutrients to be digested and absorbed at the same time and alkalize your body effectively.

There is no right or wrong way to enjoy a delicious and nutritious cold-pressed juice (or smoothie), but there are ways to make the experience work with your health needs. Take into consideration that the time of day you drink your juices could have a noticeable effect on your digestion, energy, and overall wellness. It’s never too early or too late to start incorporating cold-pressed juices & smoothies into your daily routine. If you are interested in starting, try out some of DOSE’s cold-pressed vegetable and fruit juices today!

Because they’re made with DOSE‘s smoothies which contain a good amount of plant-based protein. These smoothies are full of delicious fruits and veggies and can be included in your breakfast! For these popsicles, I used very popular breakfast ingredients like chia pudding, yogurt and granola. Obviously, no need to eat them only for breakfast! • 1/2 cup of DOSE – Banaberry smoothie
  • 1/2 cup of plant-based vanilla yogurt
  • 2 tbsp of dark chocolate, chopped

1. In a bowl, combine 1/4 cup of granola with the almond butter. Put the preparation at the bottom of 4 popsicle molds.
2. Divide the DOSE – Banaberry smoothie among the 4 molds. Distribute the rest of the granola and finish with the plant-based yogurt. Garnish with dark chocolate.
3. Put in the freezer for at least 4 hours.

Popsicles Banaberry

Popsicles Matcha (4 servings)

  • 1/2 cup of canned coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp of chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup of granola
  • 1/2 cup of DOSEMatcha smoothie
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut

1. In a bowl, combine the coconut milk and chia seeds. Rest for 5 minutes.
2. Put the granola at the bottom of 4 popsicle molds. Put the DOSE – Matcha smoothie into the 4 molds and cover with the preparation of coconut milk and chia seed. Garnish with the shredded coconut.
3. Put in the freezer for at least 4 hours.

Living a more health-conscious life can be tricky at times, especially when you’re trying to get in all the vitamins and minerals needed to keep your body strong. There is usually a lot of planning involved to make sure you’re eating the right foods and maintaining a healthy immune system. It can be a bit discouraging to not see the results you want after making lifestyle changes.

However, one of the simplest ways to support your health through your diet is to cut out sugary drinks you might be consuming on a regular basis. Sodas, artificial juices, cold-brewed bottled coffee, and a variety of energy drinks are all culprits in adding more sugar to your diet than is recommended. If you love your sugary drinks but want to find healthy alternatives that are just as tasty, below are a few options that you can add to your daily routine.

Iced or Hot Tea

A simple and delicious alternative to a sugary beverage is tea. This can be cold or hot and can be as strong or weak as you wish. The best thing about switching from soda to tea is that you can control the level of caffeine and opt for a sweetener instead of sugar to give it a bit more flavour. There are also a variety of teas to choose from, that’ll keep you feeling good!

Homemade Lemonade

Is there anything more refreshing than a glass of lemonade on a hot summer’s day? Its tangy zest makes it easy to cool down and enjoy the warmer weather. If you’re looking to switch out sugary drinks, then consider opting for homemade lemonade instead. Like with tea, you can control how sweet you want it to be and if you would rather opt for a natural sweetener, choose stevia per exemple that is better for your overall health.

homade lemonade

Green Juice

If you really want to take your health to the next level and kick your sugary drinks to the curb, then consider adding green juice to your daily routine. Along with being low in sugar, green juice is made from a variety of vegetables that offer nutrients important for supporting a healthy immune system. Not to mention that vitamins and minerals can play a role in your energy levels and your skin condition in a natural way.

green juice as a sugary drink alternative

Sparkling Water

For those who want to keep their diet as simple and healthy as possible, then switching out your sodas for sparkling water could be the best option. If your draw to sugary drinks is simply the refreshing carbonation, then sparkling water is a great alternative. Not only will it help you stay hydrated throughout the day, but with some simple flavouring can feel like you are still enjoying your favourite soda without hurting your health.

Fruit & Herb Infused Water

Sometimes the simplest option can be the best one for you and your dietary needs. If you’re ready to get rid of sugary drinks and want to add more water to your daily routine while still having fun with it, then consider infusing your water with fruits and herbs. The subtle flavour will add a kick while still doing your body good by staying away from sugar or sugar alternatives. There are also so many fruits and herbs to choose from—you’ll never run out of options!

infused water

Optimizing your diet to make it as healthy as you can for your needs isn’t always easy. It can be difficult to let go of your favourite drinks and foods. But, with the right alternatives that still taste great and give you the energy you need, staying healthy can be easy. By switching out your sugary drinks for iced tea or a DOSE green juice, you’ll be helping your immune system and overall wellness without sacrificing flavour. Try one of our green juices today and see for yourself!

Often forgotten, water is nevertheless essential to the daily functioning of the reactions that take place in our body.  Indeed, the body is made up of 60% water on average. It is essential to life and allows us to transport nutrients and waste in the body, digest properly, lubricate joints and regulate body temperature. To keep this vital water circulating throughout our bodies, it goes without saying that hydration is essential.

How much water should we consume every day?

An adult woman should consume an average of 2.7L of water, including water from food and drink. An adult man should consume 3.7L. These needs are approximate and depend on the energy expended during the day and the temperature outside. The more you move around and the hotter the day, the thirstier you will be!

Evaluate your hydration level

To know if you are sufficiently hydrated, simply look at the colour of your urine throughout the day. Clear urine is a sign of good hydration and dark urine is a sign of dehydration.

Be careful, completely clear urine can be a sign of overhydration, i.e. too much water compared to the quantity of electrolytes (e.g. sodium, potassium) normally found in the body. Therefore, during intense physical activities or heat waves, it is recommended to hydrate with drinks containing electrolytes rather than with water alone.

Staying hydrated throughout the day

According to the latest Canadian Food Guide, it is recommended that you hydrate primarily with water. You can infuse it with fresh fruit to add flavour. Tea, coffee, milk, and vegetable drinks are also good options. When it comes to juices, it’s best to choose low-sugar versions like DOSE’s Green Juices.

Athletes can also replenish their energy reserves with smoothies and sweeter juices such as ZEST and TANGO with a pinch of salt added for sufficient electrolytes.

It is estimated that about 20% of the water consumed daily comes from food, including soups and vegetables. Many fruits and vegetables are rich in water, such as cucumbers, watermelon, tomatoes, zucchini, celery, strawberries, peaches, peppers, and oranges.

Don’t hesitate to make a habit of drinking water with your meal. Some smartphone apps can also be great to remind you to drink. Otherwise, having a full glass of water or a measured bottle nearby will help stimulate your drinking reflex.

If you would like more personalized advice on hydration or healthy living, don’t hesitate to consult a registered dietitian who will listen to your needs and support you with kindness!

Anyone who lives a busy lifestyle knows how hard it can be to consume all the fruits and vegetables they need for a balanced diet. In recent years, juicing has gained a lot of popularity for this exact reason. Ease and convenience have a huge impact on how health-conscious we are, especially when working full-time or managing a household. Preparing hearty and nutritious meals isn’t always an option, so choosing instead to include all the right vitamins and minerals in your diet through quick and delicious juices is a much easier option.

If you’re looking to stay healthy while on-the-go, then below are a few of the most nutritious vegetables to juice at home so that you can get back to your busy lifestyle.

juicing

Kale

Kale is a leafy green vegetable that is jam-packed with vitamin A, which aids in bone and teeth development, supports healthy skin, and contributes to normal function of the immune system. With its mild flavour and nutritious qualities, it’s the perfect option for juicing.

Carrots

The colourful mocktails season is finally here! If there is one thing we are still able to do during these challenging times, it’s enjoy an apero in the sun. What’s better after a workday or a Saturday afternoon than enjoying a cold drink?

The nice thing about mocktails is that they are alcohol-FREE cocktails, but just as tasty and refreshing! DOSE juices are already delicious just on their own but with the addition of a few ingredients, they quickly turn into tasty mocktails.

Try one or many of the 3 different recipes below according to what you fancy. You will notice that I love to swape my ice cubes for frozen fruits. This is a great way to keep your drink cold, without diluting it with water. You can of course eat the fruits after you have finished your drink!
